Kensington Mews House, South Kensington, London, UK
Refurbishment of an existing 3 storey listed house in South Kensington, London.
The project consisted primarily of a new 4m deep basement in challenging ground conditions and under the full plot to accommodate office space. The basement was formed by reinforced concrete underpins on all sides. A thin steel column was introduced carefully within the proposed line of partitions of the basement space, to support the new steel beams forming the ground floor structure. A composite deck completes the ground slab. Strategic lightwells were introduced at ground floor via voids in the structural slab to allow light to permeate to the basement level below.
Refurbishment of the three levels above ground floor entailed primarily the reconfiguration of the existing loadbearing walls and the introduction of new staircase.
Project completed in 2017.
