Al Bahr Towers, Abu Dhabi, UAE

Two iconic 30-storey elliptical towers consisting of a central stabilising circular reinforced concrete core and perimeter honeycomb steel frame. The towers are connected by a complex 2-storey 8.5m deep basement measuring 200m*100m, housing carpark spaces and plant. A 100m span steel structure roofs the podium space between the towers. The towers feature innovative external Mashrabiya shading devices along the east, south and west facades. These provide climate control and help attain onerous sustainable targets. Konrad led the structural engineering project team whilst at Arup.
